Counting number fields by discriminant is one of the central problems in arithmetic statistics, where one studies statistical behavior of number-theoretic objects in families. In this talk, I will provide a brief introduction to arithmetic statistics. After that, I will introduce the problem of counting number fields by discriminant and its generalization to counting algebraic tori over Q by Artin conductor.
